ring out the old!

Well, the break is here at last! Tonight will be the proof that Santa lives on! Tom joins me in wishing each of you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2008! Keep your child reading over the break, and you can help keep his/her mind on numbers by counting things, relating size, doing addition and subtraction facts to 10, recalling doubles (1+1=2. 2+2=4, etc), magic numbers (the numbers that add up to 10), etc. Take care - see you soon!

an update on yesterday's blog!

Just a couple of things to catch up on - apparently there will be no cafeteria on Tuesday the 18th and Wednesday the 19th of December, because of Christmas concerts. So please send your child's lunch with him/her on that day. Thanks.

I've also put some extra catch-up work in with some of your children's homework duotangs. Thanks in advance for helping them to catch up. Please return those extra things on Tuesday (the 11th).

The countsown is on!

Well, December is here and it really looks like it too! Because of the snow days on Monday and Tuesday I didn't send homework this week, nor did we have spelling words. There is no school for students on Monday Dec. 10, as teachers and staff from GMCS are going to the mainland for meetings. Because of this I have dedcided that I will send home next week's homework and spelling words tomorrow, to be due next Friday, Dec. 14th. The spelling words are: up, crab, man, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, today, come, some, weekend.

Please remind your children that they need to dress appropriately for the weather - even if there is no snow, the playground is NOT Warm - there's always a cold breeze blowing.

Have a great weekend and week following!

end of November

Here we are at the last week of November. Thank you to all who came and visited during Parent/Teacher Interviews. I appreciate your interest in your child's learning experience as well as the time you take at home to reinforce what we are doing in school.

New spelling words for this week (you will be familiar with them from last weeks homework...) - car, ball, computer, book, with, likes, plays, and, you, do.

Most of the students are remembering to dress warmly - on wet days it would be good if they had 2 pairs of mitts. Thanks. Have a wonderful week!

Report card day!

Well, Tuesday is report card day! There are quite a few extra papers along with the report this time - my letter that tells what we've been doing so far, a computer questionnaire, the Parent-Teacher info sheet to be returned, a sheet to inform you of Guided Reading levels and what they mean, and a newsletter. I look forward to seeing you all - make sure to bring any questions and/or concerns with you.
I am sending homework home today, but there will be no spelling words this week. Please send the homework back on Thursday.

Cold November

Hello - here we go with a short week (which in the long run usually seems longer!)--
Just a reminder...the weather is getting much cooler, and the wind never seems to stop out in the playground, so please remember to send hats and mitts with your children.
Spelling for this week - it, dog, bran, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, you, your, and yesterday.

November highlights

Here we are into November already! Just a few notes about things going on this month - on November the 19th we are having an Anti-Bullying presentation, and on the 21st the Maritime Marionettes will be putting on a play for us. Each of these activities has a cost attached to it, and we are asking each child to bring in $4 to help out. Thanks to those who have already sent in the money. As well, report cards will be coming home on the 20th of the month.

We are starting a new set of "Reading Club" groups tomorrow afternoon, having tested the children and regrouping them.

Parent survey forms are coming home today in agenda bags. Please fill them out and return them as soon as possible. Thank you for your help in this project.

Spelling words for the week are - at, yes, slug, fork, storm, horse, forty, are, all, and morning.

A full week of school....

We're back at it this week - spelling words are: in, leg, glad, ring, sang, strong, lung, be, we, and length. The test will be on Friday, as usual. Practice makes perfect, so please go over them each night!
There will be an assembly Friday morning, at 9am. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Have a great week!

October 9 - 12

Hello again -
Homework went home today, along with new spelling words. Just in case they aren't completely readable, here they are: us, sad, flag, this, with, that, thank, me, we, thinking.
There will be no homework or spelling words next week, as it will be a very short week (no school Monday or Tuesday for students). I plan to send a math booklet home on Friday - please help your child work in it and return it at the end of next week (October 19th). Have a great week!

Tuesday, October 2, 2007

Hello on this Tuesday! Please remember to study your spelling nightly. As well, I will be sending reading bags home this week, with reading logs to fill out as you read your books each night. As we aren't allowed to "do" ice creams this year, when you've read 50 books you will get to choose a new book from my library to keep. Readers win!!!!

SPELLING PRACTICE NEEDED

Now that we've begun our spelling program, make sure your child practices his/her words each night!

WELCOME!

WELCOME to the new year at GMCS! I'm excited for the school year, and I hope your kids are too! I send homework on Mondays , and ask that it be returned no later than Friday - so I can correct it and put more in. Please check your child's agenda each night for notes - there probably won't be many, but the night you don't check will most likely be the one that needs to be seen, right? If you ever have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact me - through the blog or by phone -- my number here at school is 662-7083. You may call me at home in emergency situations (ie bus situations, bullying, problems that you learn of when your child is going to bed). Here's to a GREAT year!!!!
