February Frolics!

noteworthy dates in February -
* 12 - Valentine exchange in homerooms in afternoon
* 17 - Happy Birthday, Zack!
* 19 - Day 100 - pending any snow days between now and then
* 26 - Happy Birthday, Jasenda.

This week we are "doing" the letter Ee. The new word wall words are so, my, and love.

The Kindergarten students are enjoying being part of Reading Club. Rememer to check their RC bags on Monday and Tuesday nights for books to be read, work in duotang to see, etc.

Guided Reading bags and logs will come home this week. Your child should read his/her story and make an entry in the log book each night. Send the bag and its contents every day, and he/she can get a new book. When your child has recorded 50 books read he/she can pick a book to keep from a collection I have here at school - a good incentive to read!

It's the last week of January!

This week we are talking about the letter "D". As well, tricky/sight words coming home with homework are no, go, yes, and see.

We are beginning a new Reading Club today, this time with the Kindergarten students included. Reading Club books and duotangs will be coming home. Please read the book with your child and check to see if there is work to do in the duotang. The students should also be bringing books home each night to read, log, and return the next day. This will start with my K class tomorrow.

The whole school is doing a money collection for earthquake relief for Haiti. We are asking that each child bring in $5.00 - other money is welcome as well. This is in relation to the letter that was sent home on Friday. Thank you in advance for your help in this venture.

PLEASE send snow pants, boots, mittens, and hats EVERY DAY with your child. There were lots of children outside today without snow pants. The playground is cold and windy - even if you think we might not be going out - if the clothes are in the backpack they can be worn or not. If they're not there, they can't be worn.....

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

Welcome to the frigid North!! Remember to bundle your children up well this week, as temperatures are low -- hats, mitts, snowpants, jackets, and boots will fit the bill for sure.
New words for the week are said, it, and here. It is important to keep practicing all of the words that have been sent home - we all know practice
makes perfect!
We are putting emphasis on the letter Bb as well this week, and I appreciate you parents who are helping their child to fill the Alphabet Bucket.
Hope you all have a great week!

WELCOME BACK!!!!!

Well, here we are in January and ready to start the short haul until June!
We have completed the Jolly Phonics program and will now be "doing" a letter of the alphabet each week. Students will be taking turns bringing the "Alphabet Bucket" home to put items in beginning with the letter of the week - this week we are talking about Aa. Once again I thank you for your support and involvement in your child's education.
Our word wall words for this week are as, come and some. We will also be writing more and more, and the children will be able to use the sounds they have learned to form words and sentences.
We have received letters from World Vision and Trevor O'Neill, thanking us for our gifts of money for books and small toys for the children in Afghanistan. It is a good thing to make children aware that there are children around the world who aren't a fortunate as they are.
