Big week coming up!

This week we will finish covering the alternate spellings for the long vowel sounds as I wrote on last week's blog entry.

Monday we will do two sounds - long o (oa, ow, and o_e), and long u (ue, ew, and u_e).

Tuesday we will do the oy (with "toughy Y") sound.

Wednesday is concert day - cafeteria will be closed and students will eat in classrooms - concert begins at 1:00 pm.

My goal is to, by Chrismas break time, have covered the rest of the sounds: ow and ou, and er, ir, and ur so we will be ready to start going through the alphabet from January to June.

Wednesday, December 22nd is BYOM (bring your own mug) day, for a cup of hot chocolate.

We have Reading Buddies on Mondays (Ms. McQuaid's class) and ever other Friday (Mr. Lee's class), and have been enjoying listening to stories and doing crafts with them.
When there is a half day, I would appreciate your child's attendance at school - we do our most productive work in the mornings, leaving the afternoons for music, Phys Ed, art, etc. When there is a half day, we still do the work for that day - when your child is absent, he or she will miss out. Thanks for helping in this area.

Well, looks like the weather is making this a short week....
This week I will be beginning to cover the alternate spellings for the long vowel sounds: ai, a_e, and ay, ee, and ea, ie, i_e, and igh, and oa, o_e, and ow, leaving the ue and u_e for next week.
New tricky words are all and are.
